Some Of These Days, was written and composed by Shelton Brooks. It was published in 1910, but first attracted attention after Sophie Tucker recorded it with the Ted Lewis band in 1926. Brooks got the idea for the song after over-hearing an argument in a Cincinatti restaurant, when a girl said to her boyfriend “you’d better not walk out on me, honey, for some of these days you’re gonna miss me”.
The sheet music alone sold a million copies, with America in the grips of ‘ragtime fever’. Sophie Tucker’s recording also sold a million over the years. Ethel Waters, Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway all made significant recordings of the song.
As the song is in the public domain, I am able to include the lyrics below, along with the songs chords.
